The study centre Srikakulam of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open university was attached to Govt.Degreee college (Men) Srikakulan in November 1983 and began functioning with minimum strength of 32 students.
The University, initially known as Andhra Pradesh Open University, was set up on 26th Aug 1982 through an act of the AP State legislature 1982. Subsequently, the university was renamed as Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University on 26th October,1991 by the Government of A.P. The establishment of this university, the first of its kind in India.This has become a full fledged study centre from the academic year 1985-86 and has been imparting instruction in Degree courses since them.
There are 40 academic counselors taking up counseling work at present in this study centre by 2004-05. The total number of books in the library are 2100.
This study centre has been upgraded as Regional Coordination Centre with attaching five study Centres viz., Tekkali, Itchapuram, Parvathipuram, Palasa and Pathapatnam for conducting practical training classes since 1999-2000.
Awards & Rewards: It is not out of place here to make a mention of 6 Gold Medals were awarded to our students of this centre.
Introduction of Online Admissions into various programmes enabled the university to provide course material to the students at a faster rate and render bet ter services to them on time.
A separate portal i.e,, WWW.braouonline.in has been developed the application form for registration to various programme viz., U.G, P.G, Diploma and certificate under this system.
A Help Desk has been created to respond to the queries of students with regard to admissions,examinations and other services, The contact Numbers of Help Desk are 7382929 570,7382929 580, 7382929 590 and 7382929 600
The university Grants commission (UGC) New Delhi also admitted this university for assistance under Section 2(f) and 12-(b) of the UGC Act vide UGC letter No. F5-7/82(CPP)Dt.12.5.1986.
The study centre importing instruction to the Degree & P.G. students with the thought full study material supplied to us by the prestigious Open University.
The Regional coordination centre is serving about 600 students including UG & PG through non-formal mode of Education.
