About Commerce Department

History & Evolution of Department

This College was established in the year 1951, the only and first-Degree College in the Srikakulam District by the then Madras State Government G.O. No. : 1887.  The College had initially started with intermediate courses.  The College rose to status of Degree College in 1954 as per G.O. No. : 766, Dated: 02-07-1954 and P.G Courses from 2005.

The Department of Commerce was started along with B.A Courses in 1954 under the control of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.  Ever since the starting of commerce, the department has grown from strength to strength to prosper as the centre of academic excellence, serving the educational needs of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam Districts also.  The department has opened section in Telugu Medium also from the 1971.  Hindi was the Second language for B.Com. Students and from the year 1971, Telugu along with Hindi was introduced as the second language.

The Commerce Department is not complacent.  It is catering to the needs of the changing situation, technologies, needs of the society and to the trade and commerce.  The department has introduced re-structured courses like Computers, Tax policies and procedures, Office organization and management in the year 1998 with the approval of the Andhra University.  Now the subject of computers is made compulsory as one of the papers for B.Com students. From 1999-2000, these courses were dropped by the University and made revised common core for B.Com. and the department started M.Com. Course from 2005 expanding the activities.  The College is now affiliated to Dr. B.R Ambedkar University, Srikakulam from the academic year 2010-11 as per the A.P, Govt. orders.

To meet the changing employment needs in the technological era the college has introduced BCOM Computers Course from the Academic Year2015-16. As per the new UGC Regulations the Department has introduced CBCS System from the Academic Year 2015-16
