The Department of Collegiate Education for the first time is introducing online admissions from this academic year (2018-19). It has developed the Andhra Pradesh Student Academic Management System (APSAMS) portal, a comprehensive solution to capture the academic cycle of a student, from entry to exit but also after that to track the progression whether it is higher education, employment or entrepreneurship.

Data collation

A student has to log in to the portal and fill the Common Application Form 2018-19. Each student can choose a maximum of five colleges and seek admission based on eligibility. “The system will allot colleges based on preference and order of merit. The entire process of preparation of merit lists will be system-generated, taking care of the reservation policy,” said Commissioner of Collegiate Education Sujata Sharma.

Besides paving the way for smooth admissions, SAMS would collate data of colleges across the State pertaining to the student strength, details of courses, availability of seats for each course, infrastructure, faculty profile, research details, paper publications, notifications and the entire college profile would be readily available in this portal, she said.

The data would be of great help to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), NAAC accreditation and other assessment agencies, she added.

Once a student is admitted through this system, his entire academic cycle will be taken care of by this management application for services like online issue of conduct or bonafide certificate.
